Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts refer to policies and practices that focus on promoting the fair treatment of all people, especially marginalised groups (e.g. racial minorities, women and gender minorities). Examples of such policies include, but are not limited to, blind hiring and unconcious bias training.

The Hukou (户口) system is a household registration policy in China that classifies citizens as either rural (agricultural) or urban (non-agricultural) residents. Urban Hukou holders receive access to benefits such as property rights, social services, and broader economic opportunities in major cities. Rural Hukou holders can apply to convert their status, but approval is limited and not guaranteed. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has historically used the Hukou system to regulate internal migration and control labor distribution across regions.
